We own a camper trailer, one that fits in behind our pickup truck. We used it a couple of times last summer and want to use it again this summer. My husband thought it would be a great idea to reupholster the cushions, paint the trailer and fix a leak we had on the roof of it. Well, my job was to reupholser the cushions. They really did need it because they were a terrible orange/yellowish/gold colour and they smelled musty.

We went to the fabric store at the mall and picked out this really nice wine coloured fabric. It was thick fabric, perfect for upholstery. The fabric cost us $97.

I carefully measured the first cushion. It was pretty simple to do, four sides, a top and a bottom. I then started sewing it by hand. That didn't last long. I purchased myself a sewing machine and boy that made the biggest difference of all.  My new sewing machine had a zipper foot too so I got brave and took out the zipper from the old cushion cover and sewed it into the new fabric.

I couldn't believe how well it was going. I was amazed. It had been a long, long time since I owned a sewing machine and just as long since I had sewn anything. Within an hour, I had the first cushion all sewn up, stuffed and zipped. I was impressed.

The next two days, I spent measuring, cutting and sewing the two longer cushions for the trailer. They all turned out really good. It makes a big difference in having new fabric on the cushions. When I was taking the old cushion covers off I could see the dust fly off of it. it was horrid. I could also see some mould growing on one of them.

I think it was well worth it to reupholster the cushions in our trailer. It was a lot of fun for me to do and it sure restored my sewing confidence to a new level. I have promised myself that I am going to work on some more sewing projects in the future.

While I was busy sewing the cushions for our trailer my husband was busy painting it. He did an awesome job on it. It matches our pickup truck now. I am so looking forward to going camping now. Camping here I come.
