Diarrhea in Kittens

My little kitten, Arrow, had diarrhea about a week after we got him.  I was really concerned about him. However, he was really active and he didn't look sick to me. If he was sick, he would have not been up running around the way he was. There was one other thing I was worried about with him though. Arrow would not drink water out of a bowl.

I think Arrow was very young when we got him because he was so tiny. I think he may have only been about 5 or 6 weeks old. What I did for Arrow was I started giving him one 8th of a can of canned cat food 5 times per day. I would put some water on the saucer with the canned food so that he would then get his water too.

It seemed that Arrow was always hungry. I don't think he was getting enough nutrition out of the canned cat food. I started giving up some dry cat food with the canned. He gobbled it up but then he got diarrhea.

I worried a lot about Arrow having diarrhea because I worried about him getting dehydrated. I was still putting the water on his saucer so I knew he was getting some water. However, the diarrhea seemed to be getting worse.

I went to the grocery store and I bought Arrow some Whiskas Kitten Formula dried cat food. I then got him a can of tuna and started mixing those two together. His stool seemed to be getting firmer and I also saw him take a drink out of water out of a big water bowl that we leave out for our dog. I was so relieved. However, the very next day it was back to diarrhea again. I decided to just give Arrow the dried kitten formula and this morning his stool was normal. No diarrhea.

I really think that Arrow is going to be fine now. Like I said, he is really active. He runs around the house chasing whatever he can find all day long. I think the problem with Arrow was that the cat food was too strong for his little system. The kitten formula seems to have fixed his problem.

As an update to this hub, I posted this hub 12 days ago and I am really happy to say that Arrow is doing wonderful. He has no more diarrhea and he is very healthy.
