This is the photo I took at Frank Slide, Alberta. I saw a shadow of a miner in this photograph. Can you see it too?
This is the photo I took at Frank Slide, Alberta. I saw a shadow of a miner in this photograph. Can you see it too?

The Frank Slide occurred in 1903 in the village of Frank, Alberta. Frank, Alberta is situated in the Rocky Mountain Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. Frank became a town in 1901. There was a coal mine at Frank in the mountain called Turtle Mountain.

In 1903, Turtle Mountain came smashing down on the town of Frank. A lot of people died in this slide and it was all over with in a matter of seconds. There are rumors of ghosts frequenting the area because not all of the bodies were recovered.

I visited the site of the Frank Slide in 1999 and then again in 2004. I was saddened that such an event had taken place. I had never seen anything like it. Huge boulders sitting everywhere you looked and you could just imagine that there is a still bodies buried underneath it. It was something that I will always remember forever.

While I was there, I took some photographs of the rocks and the destruction. When I was there I saw a shadow of a miner on the rocks and it looked like he was holding a pick. You can see him if you look really close at the photograph.

It was kind of eerie visiting Frank Slide. It kind of gives you goose bumps when you realize that what you are standing on is the remains of a town that was buried in about 90 seconds. It just goes to show you that anything could happen with absolutely no warning whatsoever. Nobody could have been prepared for the devastation of Frand Slide.

What a terrible disaster. To think events as this are multiplied all over the world. Those of us who have not experienced such devastation are blessed.

R Burow thank you for your comment. It definitely was a big disaster. I wouldn't have believed it had happened if I weren't there to visit teh site myself.

eerie picture... It remainds me a place in Peru, where a whole town was buried by a mud slide in a matter of minutes. I was there a few years ago and nothing is left, the whole village died except for a bunch of children who were away at a Circus function. It was a very sad place to visit.

Thank you for your comment, Princessa. It was really sad to visit Frank Town, too. It is sad when things like this happen to kill a whole town in a matter of seconds. Nobody has a chance.

I found out recently that I had a distant relative that lived in Frank and had left a few days before (can't remember why) the slide. Can't imagine what he was thinking when he learned that he had missed being buried under all that rock by mere days.

Name Withheld, thank you for your comment. I can't imagine what he was thinking either. It must have been terrible but at least he wasn't involved in the slide himself.

I don't realy know why those people inorged the rocks on the Turtle Mountain. P.S.that photograph with that ghost i thought that big rock hit that person and that person as stuck there and never fall on the ground.

i hope you people agree with me.

r jensen, thank you for your comment. I am sorry, but I don't agree with you on this one. That ghost was like a shadow on top of the rocks. I was right there and I saw it.

ryanj, thank you for your comment. My cat's name is Arrow. He is the most awesome cat ever. He is a polydactyl, meaning he has six toes on each of his two front paws. This makes Arrow just more special to me. Arrow means everything in the world to me. I have had him since he was six weeks old. He is 2 1/2 years old now. He makes me smile each and every single day.
