Getting Teeth Pulled Out
71I have always had a fear of dentists. This fear stems from an incident that happened to me in Ontario, Canada. I had a wisdom tooth that needed to be pulled out. I went to my dentist in the small town I lived in. The dentist could not pull it out after about an hour of yanking on it. He informed me he could not do it and sent me to the larger city about an hour south of us.
By the time I was at the dentist in the larger city, I was in so much pain.I finally had the tooth pulled out but I feel this was completely unnecessary and that the dentist I had was completely unprofessional and incompetent.
Last year, I had a tooth that was sore for months and I was in complete agony before I decided I would visit the dentist and have it pulled out. Now, getting that one tooth pulled out was very painful too. It just heightened my fear of dentists all the more. However, I did vow to myself that the next time I needed to get my teeth pulled out that I would go to the dentist right away and not in pain for months.
Yesterday, I had two teeth pulled out because they were absessed. The dentist, of course, wanted to do a root canal but I couldn't afford it so I just had them pulled out. Now, how do I feel one day after having them pulled? I actually feel just fine. My mouth is tender but that is expected. The difference this time is that the dentist gave me pain pills, anti-inflammatory pills and an antibiotic. To me, this made the biggest difference in pain relief for me.
I can tell you, I was absolutely terrified to have my teeth pulled out and I probably will be again. I do not like dentists at all but I can say I am feeling a bit less apprehensive about visiting the dentist again.

They wanted to pull them out on the same day but I just wasn't ready so I had to wait a couple of days before they pulled them out.
im really scared of going to the dentist,i cant remember the last time i went,but my back top tooth needs pulling out because its that bad,and i really dont like being rite back in the chair i suffer from panic attacks,can anyone help please and thankyou
kelly, thank you for your comment. I am not a professional in any means, but I would suggest going in and having a talk with your dentist. Maybe there is something he can say or even do that will ease your discomfort with dentists.
I'm getting my tooth pulled out tomorrow and I am soooo scared I was balling my eyes out at the dentist the other day, how do I get past my fear of getting my tooth pulled??? Does it hurt?!
kellie, I don't know what to say except just try not to worry about it because that will cause you more stress than you need. Unfortunately, for me, yeah it did hurt, but it is different for everyone. Good luck and I do hope it doesn't hurt.
