Gourmet Food and Fancy Restaurants

By

When I think of the term gourmet food, I think of rich, fancy and very expensive food. I think of having to dress up in fancy clothes, put on a pair of high heels, put my hair up and put my makeup on. I think of going to a very fancy restaurant and having a glass or two of wine before my meal and I think of the meal itself, very tasty, very appealing, very expensive.

My daughter, JLHanna, a 22 year old college student and I, a 48 year old out of work due to a severe back injury, had a discussion about gourmet food.

1. Would you enjoy getting all dressed up in order to eat gourmet food at a fancy restaurant?

Me - Okay, everyone, I'm not a fancy person. I could never see myself in a pair of high heels and I could never see myself wearing makeup. I also can never see myself sitting in a fancy restaurant.

JLHanna - I would love to get dressed up and go out to eat gourmet food. As long as I fit in and am not over or under done up I would love going to a fancy restaurant.

2. What would your favourite gourmet food be?

Me - I think anything with beef or chicken in it would be a good bet. Possibly prime rib. My mouth is watering already.

JLHanna - I love my meat and agree with mom completely. Anything with chicken, pork, or beef in it would be awesome.

3. What is your favourite gourmet food restaurant?

Me - Does the Keg count as a gourmet food restaurant?

JLHanna - I'm not sure if Montanas or Red Lobster counts but those would be my two favourite gourmet restaurants

4. When is that last time you went out to a fancy dinner in a restaurant?

Me - The last time I went to a fancy restaurant was two Christmas' ago. I went to the Keg for a Christmas party and had prime rib. It was so good but very expensive.

JLHanna - The last time I went to a fancy restaurant and had to get all dressed up is when the family went out to celebrate Grandma's 80'th birthday.

5. Have you ever tried gourmet food cooking at home?

Me - No, I can't say as I have. I always like foods plain and simple like roast beef and mashed potatoes or chicken wings and potato wedges. I would rather eat regular food any day than fancy gourmet food. I don't like sauces or spices much.

JLHanna - I do a lot of baking and cooking at home but I have never tried to cook gourmet food because I know it just wouldn't turn out right.

6. Do you feel that restaurants should charge so much for gourmet food?

Me - I feel that if the food at a gourmet food restaurant is of exceptional quality and looks and tastes that good then a restaurant can charge whatever they want for it. However, if the food is of medicore quality and the restaurant is charging exorberant prices for it, that is not right.

JLHanna - I believe that if the food quality is high then they should be able to charge as much as they want. They learned the skills and took the time to prepare the wonderful gourmet foods we enjoy so they should be paid very well for their job.

7. Do you prefer gourmet cooking, home cooking or fast food?

Me - I hate to admit this, but I do like fast food the best. I am a lover of french fries. I love fresh cooked fries soaked in salt and vinegar. Okay, now I am getting hungry for fries.

JLHanna - I really enjoy home cooking the most, its cheaper than gourmet and better than fast food. Gourmet food is excellent for celebrations but I have to cook each night and if im going to be cooking it should be foods that I enjoy eating. For this reason, I make it a fact that I enjoy home cooked meals.

8. What is the fanciest restaurant that you have ever been in?

Me - I think the fanciest restaurant I was ever in would be the Red Lobster in Kingston, Ontario. The Red Lobster is a seafood restaurant. It is very expensive and the food is very good.

JLHanna - When me and my step dad went out to New Brunswick to hire some poeple for the company we went to a very fancy restaurant and had seafood and fresh lobster from the sea.

Conclusion

Me - I would definitely prefer a $10 meal than a $100 meal any day. I've just never really had enough money to just throw it away on food. I can think of many other ways to spend $100.

JLHanna - I would prefere a cheaper meal to an expansive one on most occasions. However, when there is a special occassion I do enjoy going out to a fancy place and having gourmet food.
