Names for your Kitten

If you had a brand new kitten, what would you name it?

I was given a brand new baby kitten about three weeks ago. He already had a name when I got him so I didn't get a chance to name him. His name is Arrow.

If I could have given Arrow a name I might have picked out something like Sparky, Fluffy, Trouble or Whiskers. Those are my favourite names for cats.

Now that I have Arrow and he already has a name, I wouldn't want to change it. I actually like his name very much. He was named Arrow because on his back end, he has the markings of an arrow. He is black on his back and the white markings look like the tip of an arrow with his stem and the feather piece at the end.

There is another reason that I like Arrow's name and that is because of a singer that I like very much, Neil Young. Neil Young lives on a ranch called Broken Arrow Ranch. Neil Young is my all time favourite singer. Neil Young also has an album called Broken Arrow and a song called Broken Arrow.

You can see the "arrow" on Arrow's back.

My last kitten came with the name "Jess", which was a name we were going to keep, but it wasn't long before she was nicknamed "Squish", and this name has stuck. Now, nearly a year later, I can't imagine calling her anything else :)

Over the years our various cats have had many names, Cookie, Pixie, Smudge, Tiggy, Randy, BP, Georgie, Pepi, Ronnie, Reggie and Squish. It is always a challenge to come up with an original name for them. Actually Ronnie and Reggie are both very manly, huge neutered males who are great hunters and very loving. Squish however, is a small neutered female, a feisty personality and a great hunter, although loving when it suits her :)

Cats are not usually my animal of choice, I prefer dogs, but Arrow has the sweetest personality. I hope he stays that way when he is older.

Hi DWilliamson. I like the side story about Neil Young -- now, whenever you say your kitty's name you can think of NY. (Not New York, Neil Young). There is another cool song by Harry Nilsson called "Me and My Arrow" which I think was the themesong of a TV show years ago...

I am a firm believer that cats (and of course other pets) need names that suit their personalities. When my Hubby and I got together, he brought three cats: Perry, Patty and Penny (I know -- the "P" alliteration was a bit much). I came to love all three, especially little Penny from Heaven!

Our other cats are Storm (gray, very fuzzy in body and also in her head, poor dear. It's like she has a brain full of clouds.), Gremlin (the most aptly named cat EVER. He is a little troublemaker!!) and our newest baby, Jimmy. I wrote a hub about how we got Jimmy when we had to put Penny down last year. Jimmy will be 1 year old next month. He is a nut but the sweetest boy!

Can you tell I ADORE cats!???

Hi Mighty Mom, and gee, I don't know if I can tell if you like cats or not, just kidding. I've had several cats over the years too. My son had one cat, Trouble. He sure was a troublemaker. (Not my son, the cat hee hee!)

How can you only be on Hub Pages 2 weeks and already have 53 hubs written!!?? I'm impressed. I only just published that many in 8 months!

BTW, My son named Gremlin and Storm. And he (my son) is Trouble! Tee hee!

Oh, oh. (for you son I mean). I just found out about HubPages 2 weeks ago and wish I knew about it a long time ago. I'm off work right now due to back issues so I can't do too much else except write.

I think you should name him "Peppy LaPew"..... However you spell it. I always thought he was so cute but maybe Arrow wouldn't appreciate it. Pretty cat though. I have an orange cat and we call him Thomas.

Thanks for the name suggestion, ronibgood. I don't think Arrow would appreciate it but he does remind me of a little skunk. The correct spelling is Pepe le Pew, just in case anyone wanted to know.
