Little Chipmunks in BC

Little Chipmunks

Chipmunks are little rodents but they have to be the cutest little rodents ever, if you like rodents at all. I think chipmunks are the only rodent that I do like. Normally when I think of rodents, I think of rats.

Now, rats are a whole other subject for a whole other hub sometime because I absolutely despise rats. Rats are dirty, disgusting creatures. I am not talking about pet rats because I do know that pet rats can be good pets. The rats I am talking about are sewer rats or rats that you see outside of a restaurant at three o'clock in the morning, eating garbage. Those are the rats I'm talking about.

However, and thank goodness, this hub is not about rats it is about chipmunks. I have seen two different kinds of chipmunks in my life. The kind of chipmunk that lives in Ontario, Canada and the kind of chipmunk that lives here in British Columbia, Canada. They are two toally different types of chipmunks.

The chipmunks that live in Ontario are about the size of a squirrel and they have a black stripe on either side of their back. The chipmunks that live in British Columbia, however, are chipmunks that are much smaller in size. They do have the stripes but they are much smaller.

It is kind of funny because compared to what's in Ontario everything else in British Columbia are huge. The crows are massive here, hawks are the biggest I've ever seen, the trees are way taller, the mountains, if you see a mountain in Ontario it is pretty much like a mole hill compared to what you would find here in British Columbia and then you have the chipmunk.

This was a little chipmunk that I saw while on vacation in Trail, BC in 2007.

mel6333, I would imagine that some people have chipmunks as pets, but they are a wild animal so I would advise against it.

How prevalent are chipmunks where y'all are at? We obviously down have them in Texas, but I think they are very cool creatures!

How big can chipmunks grow? If people are keeping them as "pets" I am pretty sure they cannot grow too large...

Poker Training and john d, thank you for your comments. I haven't seen too many chipmunks here and the ones here in BC are really small but when I was living in Ontario I saw a lot more and they were a lot bigger, about the size of a small squirrel.
