My Kitten Sleeps on My Head
73
Okay, say what you want about this bad habit that I have gotten my little kitten into, but I don't care. For me, there is nothing I love more than having this wonderful, beautiful little creature sleep right on my head, each and every night.
Arrow, who is almost one year old now and weighs, I swear, almost 20 pounds, comes into my bedroom each and every night. He jumps up onto my pillow, lies down as close to my head as he can get, put his little face in my ear, purrs like a mad cat and falls asleep like that. Not only does he fall asleep, but I get the best sleep ever when Arrow does this.
Now, when I first got Arrow, he was a teeny little boy kitten. He was only six weeks old and oh my, he was the cutest little kitten ever. I brought him into bed with me at night and I would say he had been with us for about a week and then he started curling up on my head.
I always kind of worried that he was going to get bigger and not fit on my pillow anymore, but he has gotten much bigger and he still fits. I have just a teeny corner of my pillow and Arrow has the rest.
Now, my husband absolutely hates the fact that Arrow sleeps on my head and I'm sure that some people are going to ridicule me for letting him do this. However, with everything in my life that I have been through this past year, Arrow makes me feel secure and loved and loved unconditionally and that is very important to me.
There has been a few nights that Arrow has slept elsewhere in the house and I actually did not get a very good sleep on those nights. I missed him sleeping on my head, I really did.
When Arrow came into my life, I was going through some serious health issues with my back and I was severely depressed and not feeling well about my whole life situation. Unfortunately not much has changed as far as all that goes because today, I am still fighting back pain and depression. Arrow has helped me through a great deal of this because when Arrow was just little, I had to get up and carry him to his litter box because he was just so little. Arrow has helped me get up and get moving. He has been a big help to me. If anything ever happened to Arrow, I would be devastated.
Some may say that I should break Arrow of this habit. However, I don't see anything wrong with Arrow cuddling up to my head. I think Arrow thinks of me as his Mommy and he is he cutest little kitten ever. Arrow does have a slight problem. He has six toes on each of his front paws and because I have a disability I think that is why Arrow and I have such a connection to each other.
When I come home from work, Arrow runs to the front door to see me, every single night. It doesn't matter where I go in this house, Arrow follows me. If I go have a bath, arrow sits in the bathroom with me. Sometimes, when I am sitting watching tv I will pick him up and put him beside me and he sits for quite awhile with me.
Now, I may have been the one that initiated Arrow sleeping on my head by bringing him into the bedroom to sleep with me when he was teeny little but I did not force him each and every night to come in and climb up onto my head and sleep there. Arrow has done that all on his own.

When I was a teenager living at home many years ago (and I mean many!...ha!) I had a cat that chose to sleep curled around the top of my head also. Haven't thought about that in years until I read this hub of yours. I always thought that it was sweet.
My cat also slept on my head or he would hang on my head with his claws in my forehead. He's to big now but he still sleeps on my chest.
I think it's pretty common for lots of cats to do that. Sometimes they do it because it's warmer.

I got a new kitty 2 months ago, and she's about 9 months old (rescue, so I can only guess). I thought she was the sweetest rescue ever because she loved to curl on by chest when I sat on the couch and she curled into my neck or on my head. I now see that she was just insecure, but the sleeping on my head thing still happens every night and we both love it. I consider it bonding and since it's winter, I think we both enjoy the heat. Apparently it's common with kittens and I don't see what could be bad about it.
