I do not drink for personal reasons of my own. However, that doesn't mean that I can't go out and have a good time whether it be at a party, a restaurant with friends, a bbq or a pub.
I have friends at work that like to get together and have a party. I've been invited to a few parties and get togethers over the last couple of years with them. Sometimes I went with them and sometimes I didn't.
When I go to a party, I always order a glass of coke, nothing else, just coke. I do not feel foolish ordering a coke when everyone else is ordering alcohol. The choice to not drink is mine and mine only.
I love listening to music and at any party I have been music has always been a big part of it. I still love my old rock and roll music from the 70's, Bob Seger, The Eagles, Supertramp, Queen, just to name a few.
I am usually a loner and am usually by myself most of the time so it is nice when I do get to go out and be with my friends on a social level. We always seem to find something interesting to talk about and end up talking a lot during the party or get together.
I've never really felt like an outsider when I not drinking and my friends are. However, looking back, it is sometimes funny to just sit and watch the goings on and then tell them about it the next day. It is funny how they don't remember doing the things they did and it is funny how they don't like to be reminded of it either.
All in all, I haven't been to too many parties or get togethers lately but the ones I have been to have been fun. It is always nice to get out and meet new people once in awhile too.

you should never feel bad about NOT drinking! In fact, whether you are or not, tell the bartender you're the designated driver andthey'll likely give you the coke for free :)

Interesting Hub. Very good teachings, though; stick to your guns. If you wish not to drink alky...drink something fun, like coke. Just don't sniff it. ;)

Janetta, is right most bars will always give designated drivers free soda. I like your taste in music " Bob Seger, The Eagles, Supertramp, Queen," maybe if you get some time you could make a 70's music hub, I think they are popular? I am a non-alcohol drinker also, except none of my old friends think that not drinking is a good thing. It is O.K though, I traded my dancing shoes in for bedtime story reading to my daughters. :-)
Whikat, you will never believe this but I write children's stories and I have my own website designed for parents to read my stories to their children. If you look on my profile you will find the link to it. I definitely will consider doing a hub on 70's music. It will be lots of fun.

I think it is great to be able to party without having to drink alcohol. Too many people drink too much to get the courage to dance, to chat someone up, or just to pass the time. If you are able to enjoy yourself without alcohol that is great!

Nice hub! And so true! I have been around my friends when they were drinking and I wasn't and boy do people make fools out of themselves! And you're right, they sure don't like to be reminded of it! Unfortunately, I too have been in that boat. LOL
