Prevent Bedbugs

I have been very lucky and have never had a problem with bed bugs. However, there are millions of people that have had problems with them. Bed bugs like to live in mattresses and they do bite humans.

1. What do you think would be the best way of exterminating bed bugs?

Me - I think the best way of exterminating bed bugs is to have a professional exterminator take care them.

JLHanna - My method of taking action against the bedbugs would depend on the severity of the infestation. If I noticed the problem from the beginning there may be only a feel bugs to contend with. Under these circumstances I would try pesticides and vacuuming them up before calling an exterminator. Of course if the problem worsened or was bad to begin with I would immediately call an exterminator.

2. What do you think about hotels bed bugs and other bugs?

Me - Hotels bed bugs just sound so gross but when you think about it, I wonder how many hotels actually do have problems with bed bugs, especially the cheaper roadside hotels.

JLHanna - If the hotels bed bugs were as bad as you think you would have had a problem with them long ago. Because hotels are a necessity for most people you just can't dwell on hotels bed bugs.

3. Do you know how to spot bedbugs?

Me - I have never actually seen a bed bug so I don't actually know how to spot bedbugs but I would think it wouldn't be too difficult. I would think that if you had a problem with bed bugs it wouldn't be too long before you knew about it. Bed bugs do bite.

JLHanna - Yes bed bugs do bite but there are other ways to notice bed bugs. Have you ever just lifted up your bed sheets or mattress and taken a look? You can actually see the bugs, pooh spots or bug casings with your naked eye. These are great ways to see if you have a problem.

4. How do you prevent bedbugs?

Me - The best way to prevent bedbugs is to purchase a mattress cover for your bed. I have a brand new bed and so I bought a brand new mattress cover for it. It said right on the mattress cover package that it would prevent bugs from getting into a mattress. Bed bugs love to dwell in beds, hence their name. Most warranties on mattresses are null and void if you do not have a mattress cover. I think it was a very good investment, after all, my new bed will probably last me the rest of my life.

JLHanna - Buying new matresses, bed covers, and bed sheets is a good way to prevent bed bugs. Other ways to prevent bed bugs is not to buy second hand mattresses, check second hand mattresses thoroughly and vacuum your luggage, mattresses, couches and chairs thoroughly if your worried you may have brought some home.

5. What are your final thoughts on bed bugs?

Me - I am so relieved that I have never had a problem with bed bugs. They seem nasty. I couldn't imagine getting into bed and then being bit all night long. I get itchy just thinking about them. I think thought that I will always remember an old, old saying, “Night, night, don’t let the bed bugs bite”. I used to say that to my kids when I tucked them into bed at night and I remember my parents saying that to me.

JLHanna - Learning how to spot bed bugs is a good way to prevent bed bugs. Also knowing how you can bring them home is essential in keeping them out of your home and away from your furniture.
