Proper Sleep

What is proper sleep, because I know it is something that I have not been getting for years. I would love to get some proper sleep, but anymore, it seems impossible.

My lack of sleep started about 4 years ago and it was due to stress. Stress can play a big role in our sleep patterns. How can a person sleep when there is so much stress going on in their lives? How can you get proper sleep when all you do is toss and turn all night long, worrying about this and wondering about that? The answer is, you can't.

During all this stress that I had been going through, I have developed severe back pain due to bulged discs. I am pretty sure that stress has played a big factor in my pain.

I know there are sleeping aids out there in medication form but I can't take medication. I get pretty much every side effect from every pill I have taken and that would go for pain medication as well.

With my back pain, I find sleep is a very difficult procedure. Getting into bed hurts. Trying to get comfortable at night hurts even more. Tossing and turning all night does not help with my back pain at all. So, what I do is I try sitting up in the living room until I am so tired that I can barely stand it. That way, I can go to bed and fall asleep right away.

When I am sleeping, I can't really tell you if I was really sleeping or not. I never feel rested when I wake up. I never feel refreshed. I don't even know anymore what that "good night sleep" feeling is like, it has been so long since I have felt it.

Just this past week, during the day, I get so tired that I can't keep my eyes opened. I have actually had to have a nap. My naps during the day seem to be good naps. I do seem a bit rested when I get up from them. I think the reason for that is that I have actually not been feeling all that great and I am exhausted. Sometimes I wake up from my naps and I can't move because I am lethargic. My body just wants to stay in that sleep mode.

Will I ever be able to get a good night's sleep again? At this point in my life, I don't know. The reason I don't know is going to depend on whether my back can ever right itself because right now, it is my back pain that is preventing me from getting a good sleep.

"..pain due to bulged discs in my make..." that sentence is a bit clunky, is it right? Just asking.

I hope you get better sleep, but as a frequent insomniac I certainly can appreciate your situation. Take care of yourself!

Ixxy, thank you for noticing that error and sleep has been a lot better lately because I have eliminated the stress.

I'm glad to see that your sleep is getting better. Stress can do some awful things to our body. Beside tuning us into insomniacs it can cause memory loss and make you ill. Good luck with you continuing struggle with sleepliness.

KoffeeKlatch Gals, thank you for your comment. I am still struggling with getting a proper night's sleep. I was able to elimate that stress out of my life so I am finding that it is getting better.
