Stubborn As A Mule
66Stubborn As a Mule
Have you ever heard of the phrase, stubborn as a mule? Mules are very stubborn animals. They will only move if they want to move. That is where this phrase came from. Now, there have been many times that I have been called stubborn as a mule and I really don't think this is a bad thing.
I have congenital chorea which is a muscle nerve disorder. Because of the congenital chorea, when I am in pain the shaking and nervousness aggravates the pain even more. There have been many, many mornings I could barely get out of bed but I got up and went to work. In fact, I did that for three and a half years at my present job until my pain got so bad that I could not walk at all. That was just four months ago. I'm just now able to get up and walk around a bit.
People call me stubborn because a lot of people would have given up and just not bothered going to work for those three and a half years ago. However, I don't like the stigma that goes along with social assistance or disability pensions. I would prefer to work instead. I enjoyed my job and I enjoyed the people I work with and I miss all of that right now. I am hoping that within the next month or so I should be able to get back to work and enjoy the things in life that I can't enjoy right now.

dwilliamson, I've been called "stubborn as a mule" as well! Stubbornness can be a good trait, as you've shown here. Best wishes in achieving your goals.

I hope you can go back to work soon. The workplace is the primary community for a lot of us.
