Think of Spring
62Spring is a flutter of activity in the mountains of British Columbia, where I live. The first thing that usually indicates spring is here is the weather starts to get a little warmer each day. The thermometer gets up over zero degress Celsius during the day. It is still pretty cool at night but at least it is warming up. It warms up a little more each day until finally, we notice that the snow is gone.
Another thing that happens during spring is that it starts to rain. We don't get much rain in the area where I live because I do live in the north end of the Okanagan Valley. The Okanagan Valley is Canada's only desert.
The rain does seem to make everything cleaner looking. The leaves on the trees start coming out and the grass starts to grow nice and green. The rivers also start to fill up with the rain waters but they do fill up with the melted glacier waters too.
There is a risk of flooding here. I have seen the riverbanks overflow to the point of whole fields turn into lakes. In these temporary lakes, birds flock to it by the dozens. I have seen Canada geese, swans and ducks in the middle of these fields turned into lakes.
For me, the sure sign that spring is finally here is seeing robins on my front lawn. There is a pair of robins that frequent our lawn to pick up dew worms to take back to their nest. I haven't figured out where their nest is, but I am betting that it has to be close by.
I love to get my camera out in the spring and take pictures of the trees with their new leaves and the fresh green grass. I love to take pictures of animals at this time of year because there is always a chance that I will get to take a picture of a baby or two.
During the spring I love to get out and go for drives. Of course, I take my camera with me. I live in an area that is absolutely beautiful with the tall mountains in the background and the clear, blue waters of the many lakes and rivers. Spring is definitely a beautiful month here in British Columbia.
I love spring because I know once spring is over, summer is just around the corner. I love the hot, dry weather in the summer months.

When we lived in Wisconsin we KNEW that Spring had arrived when we saw Robins just as you indicated. We now live in Texas and they are here for such a short time (blink of an eye...or you miss seeing them) and we have seen a few recently. Obviously they are moving up your way!
