Me and my convertible at the picnic.
I love to take pictures of trees and the trees in BC are so tall!
This squirrel was making a lot of racket.

In Canada, this is Victoria Day weekend and I am going on a Victoria Day picnic. I have a few ideas for picnic baskets for the picnic and well as for the picnic food to go inside of it.

I have a good sturdy wicker picnic basket that is rather large and bulky and I have
smaller insulated plastic tote bag. It is just going to be myself going to the picnic because my husband has to work so I think I will just take the small insulated bag. If I had my kids and husband going with me I would definitely opt for the wicker basket. The tote bag will be light for me to carry and it will keep my picnic food insulated.

For picnic food, I am thinking that I will make a chicken salad sandwich. I will put the chicken salad in a little plastic container, without the mayonnaise, which I will put in another little container. I will then put two slices of bread into a plasctic bag. I will take a bit of butter in another little container too. You may be wondering why I want to put everything into separate containers. I don't want a soggy sandwich. I enjoy my sandwiches fresh and this way I can just butter the bread, add a little mayonnaise to the chicken salad and put my sandwich together quickly.

I am not a big eater so I don't think I will take any kind of dessert with me but I think I will make a small salad. I will take a couple of cans of pop with me too.

If I was bringing my family with me to the picnic, I think for picnic food, I would roast a chicken the day before and then make some potato salad and a tossed salad. I would buy a loaf of homemade bread to go with it. For drinks, I would bring some cans of pop, say a few cola, a few orange pop and a few rootbeers.

As well as taking my picnic basket and picnic food, I would take a nice picnic blanket too. Now, for a picnic blanket I will take one of my fleece blankets. They are nice and comfortable and pretty light to carry around. If the blanket does get dirty you can throw it in the wash when you get home.

I am looking forward to my Victoria Day picnic. Victoria Day is the birthday of Queen Victoria and because Canada is a commonwealth country, a country that has a monarchy, we celebrate Victoria Day. Victoria Day occurs on the weekend before May 24.

Picnics are a common occurence for Victoria Day because we Canadians usually mark Victoria Day as the first holiday of the summer season, even though the official date of summer is still just a little under a month away. We just want summer to come quicker than what it was because we are usually quite sick of the long, cold winter that has just passed.
