What is Art to Me

I grew up without art in my parents home. There were no portraits, no paintings, no ceramics, no art of any kind. Do I have art in my home today? Actually, yes, I do. I have one painting in my home that was painted by my Aunt. That is really the only piece of art that I own and the only piece of art that I feel that I will ever need in my life.

Do I need art in my life? No, I don't think I do. Art isn't going to improve the quality of my life whatsoever. Having a portrait, a painting or a piece of ceramic is not going to make my life any better than it is. Art is an inaminate object so I don't place great value on anything that isn't breathing.

Art to me is unimportant. What is important to me is the health and welfare of the people I love and care about. If we don't have our health then we have nothing.

I think I feel this way about art because I have never had an overflowing amount of money that I could spend on frivilous items. I have always had just enough money to get by and do the things in life that I need to do. Art is frivilous. It is something that we can live without.

I know there are a lot of people in the world that treasure and love art. There are a lot of artists in the world that make a living creating art. That is fine for them. There will always be somebody, somewhere that will purchase their work and enjoy it. I, unfortunately am not one of them.
