Why I Hate Firefox?
By dwilliamson
I was helping my daughter this morning with a report that she had to for college on four different internet browsers. Unfortunately, one of the browsers we had to look at was Firefox.
See, I am a diehard Microsoft fan. I have been since the beginning of the internet and I still am. I love Internet explorer. I always have and I always will.
I do understand about the security flaws in internet explorer. I really have never had any problems with them that I know about. Although if someone were to hack into my computer, really how would I know about it unless they did some damage to my files.
I installed Firefox this morning on my Windows 7 RC desktop and guess what, the file I downloaded from the firefox website said that the file was corrupt. What a wonderful way to start off, I thought. So, I downloaded it again, same thing. Then I decided to download it for the third time and it actually worked.
Firefox has one really annoying feature that I see still hasn't changed to this day. It always wants to be the default browser. I don't want to make it my default browser. Once firefox was installed I tried it out and the first message I got was about making it my default browser. Gee, I thought I had already told Firefox I didn't want to make it my default browser. How annoying is this thing?
Then I tried to work on the tabbed browsing in Firefox. What a joke!!! You actually had to go in and tell it to display tabbed browsing!!! What the heck. I like Internet Explorer's tabbed browsing much better because it is right there. I didn't have to tell it to display them.
So, my impression with Firefox has not changed one bit. I'm still a diehard Microsoft fan.

Thank you for your comment JamaGenee. See I have always used Internet Explorer and I did have to tell Firefox twice that I did not want it to be the default and I did have to tell Firefox to use tabbed browsing. It was Firefox 3 that I installed if that makes a difference. I am glad you wrote your comment though. It made me think that I have never been on the other side of things where Firefox is my default.
Yeah, I'm with JamaGenee. I use FireFox because it's faster, but before that I was an Opera user. You want to talk about a browser that always wants to be default? Opera is annoying, and I find myself hating the way that it works.
With a computer that is inclined to frequently crash, i adore FireFox. It gives me the option to load from where I was last browsing (when I crashed) and it also loads straight into any unfinished writing I might be doing.
The problem you had with installation could have had something to do with I.E. My husband had to nix it for Avant when he kept getting IE downloading viruses!
Thank you for your comment, Everyday Miracles. Yes, you are probably right about the installation issue. I knew I was in trouble for writing this hub because I don't think there are too many diehard Microsoft fans out there.
It's okay to love MS, Debbie :) No worries there! My husband is the same way, I might add. He only had to switch due to the fact that IE kept downloading viruses onto our computer!
My daughter actually wanted me to switch to Opera. I told her no, sorry I'm a diehard Microsoft fan. Thank you for your comment, Everyday Miracles.
I don't think I could love Firefox more. It's much faster, uses an incredible amount less memory, warns me when I'm about to download a virus (which has saved me at least three times) or open a webpage which will infect my computer, blocks popups on its own without any extra software, crashes less, saves your current tabs and restarts where you were on the rare occasions it does crashes, and has a million great plugins and addons that make my life a million times easier. I can't even think of all the ways Firefox is better there are so many, but those alone are priceless.
Eyeam4anarchy thank for your comment. I'm sure there are lots of things to love about Firefox but I am still a die-hard Microsoft fan, sorry.
Aili IOUm,
thank you for your comment, m
Hey DW.
I understand your frustrations. I'm not a big fan of IE, but with all of these browsers and websites that support different ones in different ways, I have Firefox, IE and Google Chrome. Firefox is my default though. If you are annoyed with the default requests, you can go into the options and turn off the "check for default browser" option.
You are fortunate however... I have been unable to get any recent version of Firefox to load under Windows 7, so I'm stuck with version 2. I would love to use Google Chrome, but it doesn't support Roboform, and that is mandatory!
Cheers!
Nigel, thank you for your comment. I have started using Firefox but just for checking page ranks on websites for keywords that I want to use in future articles, using an SEO plugin. I am using it on my netbook which has Windows XP on it and for I need it for right now, it seems to be working fine. However, for searches and other things I do on the internet, I am using Internet Explorer. I still prefer it over Firefox.
Firefox is evil, here is evidence to prove it.
KillFireFox I don't think Firefox is that evil.
The only thing I find annoying about Firefox is the messages I get about "firefox stopped this page from reloading" and such. I get that every time I click something on a page. Why doesn't it just stop it and be quiet about it? LOL
Pat, I totally agree with you. Thank you for your comment.
I've used both firefox and ie and i honestly prefer ie. Never had any security issues with ie. In fact the only time i ever got a virus it was when i was using firefox. I'll stick with ie and the latest version ie8 is the best ever.
mrketch, thank you for your comment. I agree with you 100%. I love ie 8 and feel it is the best ever.
IE is just infuriating! Every website I design looks the way it's supposed to be in any other major browser, but when it comes to IE it's completely distorted.
Your trivial complaints about being asked for default browsers and tabbed browsing are even more infuriating.
Try having to write multiple style sheets and spending ridiculous amounts of time tweaking a site just so render correctly in IE.
Microsoft needs to get with the program
IE 8 is just as pathetic as any other product that Microsoft offers
kray, thank you for your comment. I have created a lot of websites and have not really had the problems that you are speaking of so I don't understand why you are having those problems. Some people like IE and some people don't. I guess I'm one of the ones that likes it and you are one of the ones that don't.
I dont think you have created much of div-based websites, so you have never run into problems. IE deliberately didnt support W3 standards to monopolise the Intenet, till it got its market share eaten by Firefox. MS is evil.
Thank you for your comment, Niloy Mondal. No, I have not created any div-based websites. Sorry, but I still prefer IE.
Hi i may understand your hate for firefox.
but for a developper(asp.net), its really complicated(frustrating) to develop for IE.
Im love what microsoft produce but IE is the only microsoft product that i hate.
but IE7 and 8 are better so they are catching the late they faced
Sam, thank you for your comment. I just prefer IE over Firefox.
Btw, just to point out, all browsers ask to be the default browser. Personally, I use Google Chrome, and it does ask to be the default as well. and once I accept it as the default and restart internet explorer, it does the same thing asking to be the default.
I agree, I dislike Firefox immensely. It's slow, uses a lot of resources, and doesn't support the same features as I get in chrome.
I prefer chrome personally because there's only one URL/Search bar at the top, it really simplifies things, I don't have buttons and tabs everywhere, they're all neatly displayed at the top, plus, since they're so simply organized, it leaves WAY more room to actually view the webpage than internet explorer, firefox, or even opera does. Also, you can use chrome to setup quicksearch functions, so if I type youtube: rick roll, then it'll search youtube for the video rick roll.
Either case, I prefer Chrome, and there's a reason it's stealing browser share from IE, firefox, and opera!
FjoeLuc thank you for your comment. I have only tried Chrome once or twice, maybe I should consider trying it again.
Firefox is on the bottom of my totem pole too. Primarily because it takes forever to load, nags me about toolbars that need to be scanned and checked for updates before even opening a damn tab! I also build CSS/DIV websites and find FF far more anal about code. I cross test in Chrome, Safari, FF and IE. FF is the worst. IE 9 beta is terrific. My only issue so far are websites delivering crappy IE code that won't render unless in compatibility mode simply because the designer used a browser sniffer.
Probably the worst thing on the Internet is designers who use browser sniffing code instead of universally favorable code. A colleague insists on using browser sniffers. His designs always fail with browser upgrades whereas mine don't.
JacieH thank you for your comment. I am glad there are others out there that like IE as much as I do.
Personally, I hate Firefox. A lot. If I had to rank browsers, I would probably put it at the bottom. It is quite bloated, tends to render a great deal of my HTML wrong, and is just unfriendly and ugly. I only use it on Linux. My favorite browser is Opera, but I also am willing to use IE if the alternative is Firefox.
g thank you for your comment. I agree with you on the fact that Firefox is quite bloated.
yup, i hate firefox. its bloated, slow, and yes very unfriendly and ugly. Think its bad on a windows system???? Try the firefox for mac version. If i did not need it for work I would not even have it on my mac (i have to have it to test web pages, make sure they display the same on firefox as they do on every thing else). Plus, I have this program on my computer that lets me know when any program on my computer attempts to access the internet and allows me to either allow or deny that program internet access. You guys know how many services firefox has that are constantly sending out and downloading info? Firefox is a freaking joke.
I am a Safari user. Its standard on the Mac.
joshua, thank you for your comment. I totally agree with your thoughts on Firefox.
google chrome is definitely better and faster... go Big Brother!
contagious, thank you for your comment
IE is great! Especially the new version, IE9. I think a lot of Firefox users have a false sense of security, which I think is funny. IE8, for example, is more secure than Firefox 3, as the former uses sandboxing to separate the browser from the rest of the system.
Joshua Issac, thank you for your comment. I agree with you about IE being great because I feel it is!!!
I was with the author of this post till he lost all credibility by saying something so nonsensical as that Internet Explorer is an improvement over Firefox.
Sure, I hate Firefox. It is a TERRIBLE browser. But, when compared to Internet Explorer .. the worst BY FAR, Firefox is almost acceptable.
I wouldn't touch Internet Explorer with a 10 foot pole. The best browser I've found [not so much the best, but the "least-worst"] is Camino. Safari's next.
I just ran across you article on Firefox. It is amazing how people's views vary so much. I have tried them all and for me Firefox is the fastest, easiest, and most controllable of all of them.. Every time you download a new browser, they automatically ask if you want them to be your default browser. Just the nature of the beast. Internet Explorer allows so many cookies to spy on everything that you do, that it slows everything down to the point of total annoyance.
Firefox allows you to pick and choose what cookies you will allow, and to list those you do not want to allow to place cookies on your PC. The only fault i have found with Firefox so far, is that their newest version (3.6) is attached to yahoo and once yahoo toolbar attaches to your PC you can never get rid of it. It shuts everyone else out. They are as horrible as AT&T. I had to delete everything by Firefox, and Yahoo to finally rid them from my PC. Then i re-installed Firefox 3.5 (British version) and i would not trade for any other browser. When the British version is no longer available to me, i don't know which one i will choose, but it will NEVER be internet explorer.
Here's the problem I'm having with firefox. Please let me know if it's firefox or something else on my computer. Thnks
1. My computer seems to freeze a lot since I installed firefox
2. There seem to be a lot of pages I go to but the back button, seems to almost never appear.
lance, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I don't know if the problem you are having is from firefox or something else. It would be best to have someone take a look at your computer.
I agree with everything you said. Firefox has caused me nothing but problems since installing it. The updates never update correctly and webpages seem to load slower....and sometimes not at all! I uninstalled it and reinstalled it on another computer and I get all the same problems. Maybe there are tweaks that will fix all this, but I just want to install a browser and have it work...I don't to spend an hour figuring out how to get it to work. Ugh!
is there any browser doesn't offer to be the default if u find one tell me.
You know nothing about internet browsing... thats why you love IE. IE is the worst product of microsoft... IE SUCKS...
mustafa and Kandel, thank you for your comments. mustafa, you are correct. All browsers ask to be the default but when I wrote this article, FireFox was being persistant. Kandel, I do like IE. I always have and always will. That doesn't mean I know nothing about internet browsing.
I don't hate FF as I'm annoyed to death by FF users and their religious feelings that are nothing more than a reaction against M$, just like left exists because right exists. Screw both. Chrome FTW.
Bob, thank you for your comment. I have not used Chrome much at all but maybe I will in the future.
i hate firefox also, what a cumbersome annoying piece of dog doo this over bloated junk scene is. Cant clear browsing hiustory
I HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 BLEADO EBUCHII FIREFOX
Thank you for your comment duglas.

I have Firefox, and it's my default browser because I absolutely hate IE - and always have. For me, it's been IE that tries to be the default even after I say "NO!". And I never had to tell FF to use tabbed browsing. It just does.
Nice hub, tho. ;D
