Why does the Job Application process involve so many questions?

These days it seems that employers are asking a lot of questions and asking for a lot of information on their job applications. Most of the jobs these days are just for minimum wage too. So, why is this happeneing? Why does an employer need to ask all these questions? Why does an employer ask for a lot of information on the job applications?

There are several reasons for both of these questions. The first reason is because there is a lot of competition for jobs in the workforce today, even minimum wage jobs and this all has to do with the economy crashing down around us. Everyone is looking for work these days because they may have been laid off from their previous jobs. The employer wants to weed out anyone that he/she feels is not qualified enough for the job right away. An employer would have a lot of resumes or job applications to sift through.

Another reason is that the employer may be trying to get to know the applicant through the job application so that he can figure who would be the best candidate for the job. A lot of people are having to apply for jobs that are well below the wages that they were making previously. Therefore, a lot more people are applying for the minimum wage jobs these days. Again, because of the large amount of people looking for a job these days it would be a difficult decision for an employer to figure out who he is going to hire.

The information that we may feel is useless and meaningless to us, may prove to be very useful and meaingful to an employer. Trust is another issue that employers have to deal with and by asking questions, an employer may be able to figure out whether this person is honest and whether this person can be trusted.

When answering the questions on a job application that you may think are stupid, try to put yourself in an employer's shoes and you might just see the relevancy of them.

Thanks for answering and yes I do appreciate the relevance of "the weeding out process" but many questions are duplicated and 10 yrs of working history? plus now some want past employers email addresses....c'mon

Its getting ridiculous ,whatever happened to common sense ?

( just had to vent ,no way directed at you )

No, I totally understand your frustration. I would hate to be in the job market right now.
